  • Red Deer stag (Cervus elaphus) in snow-covered pine forest Red deer in the snow in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland - Dec 2014 These majestic red deer look perfectly at home in their snowy environment. Wildlife photographer Mark Hamblin photographed the magnificent animals as they wandered through a winter wonderland in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. He comments: "The stags come into the forest during the winter where they are more sheltered from the worst of the winter weather. They are completely wild animals but at this time of year will come to feed on nutritious pellets laid out for them. This provides them with extra nutrients when feeding is more difficult especially when there is deep snow on the ground. The deer stay in this area until early April, when they move back out on to the open moor and become a lot more wary of humans?.

THESE incredible ice formations were created when freezing fog descended on a mountain range. The images were captured by photographer Marko Korosec who travelled to the top of Mount Javornik in Eastern Slovenia and noticed that hard rime had been accumulating in the mountains. Hard rime is a white ice that forms when the water droplets in fog freeze onto a surface.

Temperatures are below freezing as the stunning red-winged blackbird sits on a plant in a field, taking in his surroundings.
